Thoa Nguyendon, age 88, passed away at 7:05 AM, October 15, 2016 in Austin, Texas.

Thoa was always a fighter with a big heart who loved everybody he met. He took loving care of his eight children, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Thoa extended his definition of family beyond blood in the city of Danang where he started many scholarships for poor students to finish high school. Through his work in real estate on the campus of The University of Texas he often helped students in need obtain a higher education. He was a hard worker until a few years ago when he was crippled by a stroke which hastened his Alzheimer disease.

In his teenage years, Thoa fought the French for Vietnam's independence. He would later be jailed for his efforts before being released to an orphanage. With sheer will power and intelligence over the next quarter century, he built his career. First as a Navy Officer and then he became the one and only Harbor Master Mariner and Chief Pilot of Nha Trang, Cam Rang, Da Nang and all commercial and military sea ports in the central region of South Vietnam. In his 50's, at the fall of Vietnam, he started his life again with only the shirt on his back, his wife and eight children. He would later return to college and earn his Marine Insurance degree. Thoa would go on to work at the World Trade Center prior to going into business for himself in real estate.

Thoa is survived by his wife Thuthuy Duongphat, two sisters Nguyen Thi Thuong and Nguyen Thi Diem. His children and grandchildren; Hang Qually Nguyendon (son Albert, daughter Michelle), Hangnga Nguyendon (husband Thoi, son Nam, daughter-in-law, Lisa and great grand daughters Samantha and Valerie; daughters Minh and Anh), Trung Duong Nguyendon (wife Hoai Huong, daughter Amanda, son in law Roy, son Michael), Hang Ha Nguyendon (husband Binh, daughter Mykim, son Anhkim), Trung Khanh Nguyendon (daughters Kathleen and Katrina; wife Thu Van, son Truong An and Duc Thinh, daughter Kimberly), Trung Giao Nguyendon, Hang Huong Nguyendon (daughters Lena and Sara; husband Jasper, daughter Chloe, son Chase) and Hang Tam Nguyendon.
