Irene Johnson Brown was born in Bakersfield, California, Kern County on June 21, 1950, to Robert Earl Johnson, Sr. and Fannie Mae Roberson-Johnson.

She moved to Texas in 1965 where she attended Austin High School. Irene worked in many different divisions within Texas Department of State Health Services during her 23 years of service before retiring from Infection Disease Control in 2011; whereupon, she embarked upon one of the greatest joys of her life, caring for her younger grandchildren.

While working at Texas Department of State Health Services, she met the love of her life, Elijah Brown, and they eventually joined in holy matrimony on December 11, 1999.

Irene was a dedicated Christian, becoming a deaconess in the church and leading the Women's Ministry at Logos Baptist Church. Her love for God was unequivocal and her determination to help others was insurmountable. Irene was highly devoted to her family and considered the matriarch. She was always one that would lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or offer a word of advice. In an ultimate show of selflessness, Irene donated a kidney to her younger sister Ileen.

Those keeping her memory alive include her husband, Elijah Brown; daughter, LaSonya Thomas; son, Anthony Keith; stepchildren, Kimberly Brown and Chris Brown; grandchildren, Whitney Burton, Trentin Thomas, Michael Keith and her great grandchild Camren Thomas. Also keeping her memory alive are her sisters and brother, Carolyn Johnson, John Johnson, Gloria Johnson. She will be rejoicing with her father and mother, the late Robert Earl Johnson, Sr. and Fannie Mae Roberson-Johnson, as well as her other late siblings, Robert Earl Johnson, Jr. and Pastor Ileen Johnson Hargrove and a host of other family and friends.
