Elton Sakewitz, age 61, of Pflugerville, went home to be with his Lord on May 12, 2017 due to complications from hip surgery.

Elton was born on September 27, 1955 in Austin at St. David's Hospital. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1974. Elton held around 25 years of volunteer fire service and EMS work. He started out as a Boy Scout with Travis County Fire Control, where he worked himself up to driving the fire trucks and as the assistant driver for the EMS Unit. He later joined the Travis County Emergency Unit owned and operated by Dale Owens of Travis County. In the 1980's, Elton joined the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department, where he finished out his career in fire-fighting and EMS work. Elton enjoyed doing this kind of work and was always helping others and never thinking of himself. In his 25 years of service, he attended numerous fires, car accidents and other incidents, but never once did he stop to think what might happen to him. He also worked for the University of Texas for 31 years and has been retired for nine years. He was also on the Board of Adjustments in Pflugerville for seven years.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Elmer O. and Ella A. Sakewitz, both sets of grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Elton is survived by his wife and soul mate of 28 years, Lola Sakewitz of Pflugerville; his sister, Elois I. Sakewitz of Pflugerville; brother and sister-in-law, Carlys and Linda Beard; and numerous cousins. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he thought of as his kids, and was blessed to have so many dear friends that are too many to mention.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville with Elton's Pastor Tom Kesselring officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Taylor City Cemetery.

Elton was loved and respected by many and was such a loving and caring person. He was always ready to fix any problem he could and always willing to help others. He will be missed more than words could ever say. Rest my love and save my place by your side.
