Doris Gatlin Moore (85) of Lantana, TX passed away peacefully into the arms of our heavenly Father on November 21, 2016 after a year-long battle with cancer.

Doris was born on April 13, 1931 in Friona, Texas to the late Ernest and Nellie (Parr) Gatlin. She spent her youth in Muleshoe, TX and graduated Muleshoe High School in 1948. She was named Freshman Favorite and crowned Halloween Queen her senior year.

She married James Moore on July 2, 1949, who preceded her in death in 1990.

Doris worked various jobs which in later years included traveling the country alongside her husband as one of the first "husband and wife" trucking teams employed by Jack B. Kelley Trucking in Amarillo, TX.

One of her favorite pastimes was going to garage sales and finding treasures at bargain prices. Doris was an avid dog lover and often said that she loved dogs more than people.

Doris is survived by her loving children; son, Daryl (wife Audre) from Otsego, MI and grandchildren Dallas (wife Olivia), Stormie and Jamie; daughter, Peggy Burrows (husband Dale) from Lantana, TX and grandsons Jim, Danny and Adam (wife Jessica); son, Jimmy (wife Rosa) from Carrollton, TX and granddaughter Jessica (husband Justin). She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sister, Ernestine Vernon (husband LeWayne); sister-in-law, Nell Stinson (husband Bob); numerous other family members and special high school friend, Juanita Hoover Winters.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Abundant Blessings Care in Lantana, TX for the constant compassion, understanding and support shown to Doris and the family.

A private graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, TX.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, any Animal Rescue Shelter or a favorite charity.
